Feb. TBR Tuesday

Unfortunately, I only completed half of my January TBR challenge. I finished Golden Son by Pierce Brown and it’s sequel, Morning Star, but failed to muster up the moxie to finish This Mortal Coil, so back on the TBR it goes! Hopefully I’ll be able to rise to the challenge this month!

New on the TBR Pile: The Dark Calling (Arcana Chronicles #5) by Kresley Cole         Goodreads31453592

Published February 13, 2018

I have been waiting on this book for FOREVER. It was originally supposed to be published in Spring of 2017, but kept getting pushed back. Now we are finally getting the next installment of the Arcana Chronicles in February 2018! The last book ended on a cliffhanger, so I will definitely be reading this one ASAP because I NEED to know what happens! If you guys want to see my review for Arcana Rising, Book #4 in this series click HERE.

Note: I haven’t included the synopsis because of series spoilers.

Old on the TBR Pile: The Iron King (The Iron Fey Book #1) by Julie Kagawa            Goodreads22818666

Published February 1, 2010

This is a book I’ve been meaning to read for YEARS (it’s been sitting on my Goodreads shelf since 2013!). Everyone I’ve talked to that has read this series absolutely loves it, and as a lover of faeries and folklore I really enjoy the premise. I bought the entire series in paperback from a used bookstore, so now I have to actually start them this month!

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan’s life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school…or at home.

When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she’s known is about to change. But she could never have guessed the truth.

For Meghan is the daughter of a mythical faery king…and a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she’ll go to save someone she cares about, stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face…and find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

What books are you going to knock of your TBR in February?

Mid Year Summary

I can’t believe we are already halfway through 2017! It feels like New Years was just last week! Here’s a summary of my favorites throughout the first half of this year.

10987Favorite Book

Voyager by Diana Gabaldon is one of the favorite books that I’ve finished this year. All the adventure and travel undertaken by two of my favorite characters, Claire and Jamie, boosted this to number one (along with the fact that other books that would clench this spot fit other prompts in the list). This is definitely my favorite installment in the Outlander series so far. I’m currently working my way through Drums of Autumn so we’ll see if this spot holds ;).

22055262Favorite New-to-me Series

I’m absolutely loving the A Darker Shade of Magic Series by V. E. Schwab. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books (and can’t believe it took me so long to start them in the first place). You can read some of my thoughts on this book HERE.

Series I Blew Through

Earlier this year, I devoured the entire Vampire Academy series. I was nervous to start them because I had my “vampire phase” in middle school, but actually ended up enjoying them quite a lot. You can check out my full review HERE.

17199504New Book Boyfriend

Another series I love is The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon. I read a quarter of the first book about a year ago then put it down because I got distracted by all the other reads. This year, I picked it back up again and read the entire book in a day! Needless to say, Warden is now one of my many book boyfriends. I’m afraid to finish the other two books that are out because there are still four more to go in the series (and it’s been taking two years between each release!). You can check out my full review HERE. An honorable mention goes to Kell from A Darker Shade of Magic.

31451174Favorite Series To Return To

Definitely A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I loved the newest installment, A Court of Wings and Ruin. The only reason it didn’t top my list for the year was I had a few twinges of misgiving about the ending (which you can read about HERE. If you love the series as much as I do, you can check out my summary of Maas’ answers during Q&A at one of her tour stops HERE.).

Favorite New Video Game Releasegiphy2

This one caters to my more nerdy side, and for this one I’m also going to cheat. There’s a tie between Horizon: Zero Dawn and Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia. Both games are so different and I play them in different settings. Horizon is a game I turn to when I want some action, fighting robot dinosaurs as an awesome cave woman. Fire Emblem: Shadows of Valentia is an awesome continuation/remake of my favorite series, that has some added elements like some dungeon roaming that I really enjoy. Needless to say, I’ve sunk many hours into both of these games.

Book(s) I’m Excited About3145085231453592

I’m super excited for the Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas release in September. Throne of Glass is my all-time favorite YA Fantasy series, and I can’t wait to return to it (and get the story about what Chaol is doing during Empire of Storms!). I also can’t wait for Dark Calling by Kresley Cole, the new book in the Arcana Chronicles series, although it doesn’t have a release date other than this year (it was pushed back from a spring release). There are tons of other books to look forward to this year, like Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff, Vanguard by Ann Aguirre, and Little Monsters by Kara Thomas.

Thanks for reading, and keep checking back for new updates (a summer sale may be coming soon for my Etsy shop!)

Arcana Rising by Kresley Cole

25946891Arcana Rising by Kresley Cole

Series: Book#4 in the Arcana Chronicles

Genre: Fantasy/Dystopian

Published: August 15, 2016

Rating: 4.5/5

I’m not going to put a blurb on here because it includes spoilers from the last book in the series, and I don’t want to ruin it for whomever so chooses to read it in the future. HERE is a link on Goodreads to the first book in the series, Poison Princess.

This book did not disappoint me at all. I would go so far to say as it is tied for my favorite in the series next to Poison Princess. Evie struggles with a great loss in convincingly confused fashion, as she is still forced to choose between her two loves, one of them presumed dead. Evie’s struggle with accepting this, turning into a black hat trying to make the impossible happen by turning back time, seemed real to me. She kind of goes a little insane, which I feel is an acceptable response when you lose the man you initially chose.

I have always struggled in picking a side for this race to the Empress’ heart. While I have always loved Aric, I feel like his claims on Evie were always a bit creepy because it was based in the far past and not the present. This book managed to clear some of those creepy crawly feelings up and although I will always have a special place in my heart for Jack, I can see Evie with Aric long-term.

I really enjoyed some of the new characters that we saw, particularly Sol, who I grew to like from his prequel novella in the collection Day Zero. He is funny and cool, although I still find his motives and actions a bit confusing even a week or two after finishing the book originally.

One of the most interesting parts is the development of Matthew’s story separate from those of his friends. This part kind of ends a bit abruptly…actually the whole book does.

Mini rant: I absolutely love this author but WHY DOES SHE ALWAYS DO CLIFF HANGERS??!?!?!!? She really has you on the edge of your seat, especially after the last two books, which do not seem long enough at all. No seriously, the book is 280 pages which in a world of Maasian 700 page monstrosities IS NOT ENOUGH.   *rant over*

But while we are on the topic of endings, the ending left me reeling and was everything that my super trashy romance loving heart desired. However, I do believe that the paramedic guy may be Minor Arcana and kind of messing with everyone’s head. This is not a fact, just an opinion.

Thankfully, a Spring 2017 release date has been set for the next book in the series  which already has a title and a cover! This is definitely on my can’t-wait list, and I can’t wait to see what happens next in the series.
