Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs

Series: Mercy Thompson #11
I’m a huge fan of the Mercy Thompson series – I would even go so far as saying that it is one of my favorites. The last book in the series, Silence Fallen, was my favorite installment yet so I was a little surprised when I wasn’t automatically enchanted by this book.
I have a feeling that most of the magic may have been lost for me because *ahem* I seem to have forgotten a lot of what happened in the first ten books of the series. One of the most amazing things about the Mercy Thompson series is the number of characters that reappear throughout it; however, this served as one of the drawbacks of Storm Cursed for me. A number of times I found myself googling names or synopses in an attempt to recall a referenced event. Having read the majority of the series in a span of a few months four years ago, I can’t really blame myself, but I feel this would have been much more enjoyable with everything fresh in my mind.
All this to say I’m not entirely confident my review will stay as low as it is. If anything, this experience has given me an excuse to go back and reread some of my favorite books in preparation for the next release (in two years).
My brief thoughts on the book:
I always love to see interaction between Adam and Mercy – seeing them together was awesome after they spent so much of the last book apart. The return of some heavy-hitting allies also adds some drama.
Finding out some of the behind the scenes things that have been happening in the past few novels contributes to the HUGE set up that provides material for future books – and also makes me need to go back and reread everything with a new lens.
If you’re on the fence about reading the Mercy Thompson series – GO DO IT! It’s my favorite urban fantasy series, the world is full of so many interesting creatures. If you’re already a fan – you may want to brush up on Mercy’s history before diving into this book.
